Outdoor activities to do with you dog

28 June 2023

Did you know that you can take your dog paddle boarding and kayaking? How about taking them to mini-golf or a rooftop cinema and bar? We have scoured the internet to find unique activities that you can do with your dog! Whether you are holidaying across the UK this year or looking for fun things close to home, there’s no reason to leave your dog at home.

Boat trips

Climb aboard a boat to view the historic site of the Titanic, explore Loch Katrine or visit the magnificent offshore bird sanctuary alongside your favourite pup!

1) Golden Gate Boat trips, based in Northumberland

2) Sir Walter Scott Steamship on Loch Katrine, Aberfoyle (the steamship is currently under repair, but should be back up and running soon!)

3) Titanic & Belfast Boat trips, Belfast

Water sports

Did you know that you can canoe with your dog alongside you? How about testing your dog’s balance with paddle boarding? There are a number of companies that offer just that:

1) Paddle boarding, canoeing and Kayaking with location in The Lakes & London

2) Fancy a more extreme water sport, Wakeup Docklands in London is dog friendly (although they can’t learn to wakeboard unfortunately)

3) Your dog can swim alongside lots of other water-loving pooches in Brighton at Saltdean Lido. With special events for dogs only, this lido is a great opportunity for your dog to swim in a safe environment.

Mainly for the humans

Although the following activities don’t allow your dog to participate, we’re sure they will still love being included in a family day out.

1) Dog friendly mini golf

2) Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard

3) The Milky Way Adventure Park in Devon

4) Rooftop Film Club and Bar, London and only in the Bussey Building

Countryside and history

Across the country, there is a wide variety of museums and historic houses that will allow your dog on the grounds and sometimes in the cafes. A great option is looking at the National Trust or English Heritage ‘Dog-friendly days out’ pages, linked below. We’ve also included a few open-air museums that mean your dog doesn’t need to be left out of the learning experience.

1) The National Trust & English Heritage

2) Romney Hythe & Dymchurch railway based in Kent

3) Cheddar Gorge in Somerset

4) Chiltern Open Air Museum

5) Beamish Open Air Museum in Durham

Extra Dog Treats

For something completely different, why not escape to the countryside for a yoga and walking retreat with your dog?

1) Yoga and dog walking retreat in Hastings

We had the treats for the humans, how about a treasure hunt just for your pup? These treasure hunts in Hampshire are ideal for inquisitive, energetic dogs and a great way to tire them out if you need a break!

2) Dog treasure hunt in Hampshire
