Mabel Enjoying a Dog Friendly Ice Cream

Doggy Ice Cream Recipaw

30 June 2026

Cool your pup down this summer with these simple homemade frozen treats! They're easy to make, packed with dog-friendly ingredients, and perfect for National Ice Cream Day or any warm-weather adventure.

This recipe is adapted from the RSPCA, with thanks for the inspiration.

You'll need

Ingredients for dog friendly ice cream
  • 3–4 ripe bananas
  • 1 can of coconut milk or dairy-free coconut yoghurt
  • Around 200g natural peanut butter
  • Small bone-shaped dog biscuits
  • Silicone cupcake moulds or ice cube trays

Before you begin: Always check that your peanut butter and yoghurt are free from xylitol, as this sweetener is highly toxic to dogs.

Method

  1. Prepare the bananas
Peel the bananas and cut them into small chunks to make blending easier.

  2. Make the mixture
Add the bananas, coconut milk (or yoghurt) and peanut butter to a blender and blend until smooth. No blender? Simply mash everything together thoroughly with a fork in a large bowl.

  3. Fill the moulds
Pour the mixture evenly into your silicone moulds or ice cube trays. Place them in the freezer for around an hour, or until they're beginning to firm up.

  4. Add the 'lolly stick'
Once partially frozen, gently press a small bone-shaped dog biscuit into the centre of each treat.

  5. Freeze until solid
Return the moulds to the freezer and leave until the treats are completely frozen.

  6. Store for later
Pop the frozen treats out of the moulds and transfer them to a freezer-safe container or bag. They'll keep in the freezer, ready whenever your dog deserves a cool reward.

Time to enjoy!
