Hi, my name is Amy, and this is my dog, Shirley. She is a schnauzer-poodle cross, more commonly known as a schnoodle, and she's five years old. I'm the founder of Marmalade Trust, a charity that hosts Loneliness Awareness Week. This event is happening across the world this week.
It is well known that having a pet reduces loneliness, and Shirley has been a wonderful companion to me.

I first joined BorrowMyDoggy back in 2018 when I wasn't able to have a dog of my own. I regularly borrowed a lovely little dachshund called Frank.
When I was in a position to get my own dog, I wanted to offer the same opportunity to others. And Shirley has been a big hit on BorrowMyDoggy ever since. It's been great to meet other people who love animals as much as I do. And of course, for Shirley to make some new friends too.

Loneliness is a natural human emotion that we all likely to experience at some point in our lives. It happens when there's a disconnect between the interactions we want and the interactions we have.
Connection is extremely important in reducing loneliness. And because of Shirley, I am lucky to have met many wonderful people. Everyone she meets loves her and her funny, bouncy energy, and I really couldn't imagine a life without her.
