Doggy Christmas Jumper Day 2019

Doggy Christmas Jumper Day 2019

Did you hear the pawsome news?! On Sunday 8th December 2019, over 350 dogs from across the capital, from as far and wide as ‘Barking’ to ‘Houndslow’, joined BorrowMyDoggy and Save the Children to break the record for the most amount of dogs wearing Christmas jumpers.

The previous record was 300, also set by BorrowMyDoggy and Save the Children in 2017. The charity estimates that over 1,000 pooches and humans were wearing festive knits this year.

Here’s what we got up to on the day:

The world record attempt took place at Pear Tree Café in Battersea Park, London, and saw dog owners, dog borrowers, children, families, pups and pooches wear their most wonderful woollies to help the charity campaign which makes the world better with a sweater. Not only did the event bark its way into the world record books, it also raised funds for Save the Children’s vital work. By signing up, wearing a festive knit, and donating to Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 13 December, you’ll help the world’s forgotten children have a brighter future.

Gabrielle Taylor, Save the Children spokesperson, said: “A huge thank you to every dog and owner who helped us break the world record for most dogs in Christmas jumpers. We are so grateful to BorrowMyDoggy and all the adorable pooches who wore their festive knits today to support Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day.”

“This is the second time we’ve broken the world record, and we can’t believe that we got even more humans and hounds involved this year! It’s a really fun, festive way to raise awareness of important issues. Money raised through Christmas Jumper Day could help Save the Children bring essentials like healthcare, education, protection and food to the millions of children around the world who are missing out on the most basic support.”

Attendees had the chance to take part in some wooftastic activities organised by BorrowMyDoggy including a raffle, tombola, hay bale racing and a free photoshoot (all participants will receive their digital copies via email shortly!). The Chelsea Pensioners kicked off the festivities with some Christmas Carols earlier on in the day.

Both BorrowMyDoggy and Save the Children thank all of those that attended to help create the most pawsome and festive event of the season. For all the photos from the event please do take a further look at BorrowMyDoggy Facebook here.
