Why did you sign up to BorrowMyDoggy?

My friend found out about BorrowMyDoggy on Twitter and immediately emailed me as she thought it would be perfect for me. She was right. I signed up. I grew up with a lot of animals, however since moving to London from Australia, it’s not been possible for me to have a dog of my own because of work and living arrangements. I’m always asking my friends who own dogs if I can dogsit so when I found BorrowMyDoggy and saw that I could find a local dog match in my area, it was ideal!

How did you go about making new poochy pals?

Once I’d read all about BorrowMyDoggy, I signed up and made a profile. The verification process was very easy. I browsed the dogs in my area and started to add some to my favourites. It was important to me that I had the right availability for the owners, so I was conscious not to get too carried away and favourite dogs in my area that I wouldn’t be available to look after, even if they were super cute! It was so exciting and I did add quite a few dogs to my favourites.

Tell us about your Welcome Woof?

One of the dogs I added to my favourites was Frank, the Irish Terrier. His profile was great, he lived very close to me and he looked absolutely gorgeous so when his owner, Robin, got in touch with me I was so excited! It turned out that we lived within ten minutes walk of each other. Robin and I messaged each other through the website, then we exchanged numbers and had a chat on the phone to get to know each other a bit better.

We agreed to meet for the first time for our ‘Welcome Woof’ at a local park in Wimbledon. I went along with my partner and Robin came with Frank. It was great. Robin let us take Frank on our own for a little bit whilst he watched from the other side of the park to see how we got on. Frank was not phased at all - he’s quite the social butterfly and was very well behaved. Robin was really happy with how well we got on and said I had a calming effect on Frank. We agreed for me to look after him the following weekend for a few hours.

How are you getting on with your new furry pal?

Frank and I are getting on like a house on fire! He’s always happy to see me and I’m always happy to see him. I work in a hospital so spending time with Frank is very therapeutic for me. I love him! I couldn’t have asked for a better match.

Robin is great too. He keeps me updated on how Frank’s doing in between when I borrow him, which is great. Our arrangement is very flexible and we text each other to figure out availability and I spend every other weekend with him usually. I even have Frank for sleepovers now! My parents are visiting the UK from Australia soon and I can’t wait for them to meet Frank. He fits into my lifestyle perfectly. He is so well natured and social and not at all demanding.
