Dog Walking in York
River Ouse
If you’re out and about dog walking in York, a great place to visit is the River Ouse. The UK’s sixth largest river flows through York’s city centre, and your pup can take a quick dip during your adventure. There are areas near the water for off-lead frolicking for your dog, and the city centre location means there are lots of cafes and pubs in the area to take a break.
Fishponds Wood and Beech Grove
Three miles east of York’s city centre lies Fishponds Wood and Beech Grove. It’s a fantastic place for a dog walk, with some perfect spots to take a break for a picnic. While there, you and your dog can have a wander around the area of wetland, which is home to the wood’s fishpond. A great place to visit if you’re a dog walker in York.
Reighton Sands
If you’re looking for beach walkies, pups are allowed on this beach all year round. Empty during the week and offering free parking, why not stop off at the little cafe after your pup has finished playing in the sea. All in all, a great place to walk a dog in York!
Allerthorpe Woods
If you’re after a pawsome, easy wooded walk then Allerthorpe Woods is for you. The woods are largely flat, with many different paths to take so you and your pup can explore until your heart’s content.
Yearsley/Ampleforth Woods
With fish ponds, beautiful scenery and a variety of routes to take, this is a wagtastic walk which can be as short or as long as you like, depending on how energetic your four legged friend is feeling. Parking is also available at Yearsley.
