Borsdane Wood
If you’re a dog walker in Wigan looking for somewhere your pup can safely paddle this is a great place to visit. With a mix of woodland area, tall trees and lots of pretty streams your pup is sure to enjoy an afternoon stroll here. There are also often many other dog walkers enjoying the scenery, perfect if your dog likes to socialise.
Haigh Woodland Park
Pack a picnic and head to Haigh Woodland Park for the afternoon with your pup. There is lots to keep the whole family amused for an afternoon, from crazy golf to a children’s park, woodland walks and plenty of open space for those endless games of fetch. Make sure you visit the cafe and grab an ice-cream or a post walkies refreshment.
Fairy Glen
A lovely quiet place to walk a dog in Wigan is Fairy Glen. Situated in the centre of beautiful woodlands with a stream running through, you can easily lose a few hours here taking in the scenery. Your pup can enjoy exploring the undergrowth and there is even places for him to take a dip if it’s a nice day.
Worthington Lakes
We couldn’t talk about dog walking in Wigan without giving Mesnes Park a special mention. If you’re looking for a lovely calm walk in beautifully kept surroundings, then this is the walk for you. With a bandstand, waterfall, stunning formal gardens as well as a children’s play area there is plenty to explore. After you’ve exhausted many games of fetch and have finished your walk why not grab an ice-cream from Frederick’s ice cream parlour or bring your own picnic and make an afternoon of it.
Where to eat in Wigan with your dog
The Crooke Hall Inn
Your pooch will be truly spoilt if you decide to stop off for lunch here as they are more than dog friendly - they absolutely love four legged visitors! Beside the normal human snacks like peanuts and crisps, they sell dog treats (proceeds all go to doggy charities) and their house cider is named “Dog Dancer”. Hall of fame framed photos of previous pup visitors adorn the walls and they also stock pup food behind the bar in case you’re caught short. Don’t worry humans won’t get left out as they also serve food and have a varied drinks menu too to make sure everyone is catered for!
Boars Head Inn
If you’re a dog sitter in Wigan looking for a nice pub lunch with your pup then why not head to the Boars Head Inn. Staff are very friendly and pups are extremely welcome here, there is also plenty of yummy dishes to choose from. They also have a lovely beer garden for your dog to sniff around while you enjoy a refreshing cold drink.
Prince William
If the sun is shining and you fancy a nice pub lunch outside why not visit The Prince William where pups are welcome in their beer garden. Water bowls will be provided for furry friends and two legged friends can choose from a range of homemade food options all made from locally sourced ingredients.
