24 August 2023

Are you looking for some new dog walks in Basingstoke? We’ve listed a few of our favourites below to help you get started.

Basingstoke Canal

Boathouses on the river along Basingstoke Canal, Basingstoke

Basingstoke Canal stretches 32 miles long, but don’t worry we’re not suggesting you walk the full length of the canal unless, of course, you want to! There are a number of circular routes you and your walking companion can do and they vary in distance depending on whether you’re setting off for a leisurely stroll or a weekend adventure. The Canal Centre offer free parking during opening hours and there’s conveniently a cafe there too, so once you’ve completed your route you can enjoy some refreshments before heading home.

Plan your dog walk at Basingstoke Canal.

Eastrop Park

The lake on a quiet morning at Eastrop Park, Basingstoke

A great picnic spot to visit with your pooch is Eastrop Park. An easy walk from the town centre and shops, there is a water feature and a small boating lake where you can hire rowing boats and your pup can take a dip if he likes to swim. Stop off at the cafe to refuel or grab a well-deserved post-walkies ice cream.

Basingstoke Common

A winter's morning at Basingstoke Common, Basingstoke

If your pup needs a good run out and doesn’t mind a bit of mud then why not head to Basingstoke Common? Whether your pooch is a fetch fiend or likes socialising with other dogs there is pawfect opportunity to do both. The views are lovely and there are plenty of pubs to visit nearby. All in all a great place to walk a dog in Basingstoke!

Crabtree Plantation

There are many routes to take depending on your energy levels with a mixture of terrain, from tall trees and grasslands to woodlands and a lovely picnic area. Your pup will enjoy chasing squirrels and exploring the undergrowth in the forest area and there is plenty of shade if it’s a hot day.

The War Memorial Park

A quiet oasis in the heart of a busy town. This park is well maintained and great for a game of fetch or frisbee due to the amount of open space available. Events are often held here throughout the year so make sure to check what’s going on before you visit. There is also a children’s playground, tennis courts, BMX track and an aviary making it a fun destination for family fun!
