Answering top searched BorrowMyDoggy questions

It’s completely understandable that before you use a new service, buy a new product or try something new, that you head straight to your favourite search engine to find out more. So to help our community and members, both new and old, we answered some of the top searched questions on BorrowMyDoggy.

1) What is BorrowMyDoggy?

BorrowMyDoggy is a website that connects trusted local people who love dogs, with owners who are looking for some extra help with their pooch. Whether it’s for the occasional walk, regular playdates or overnight stays and holidays, we offer the chance to easily arrange and meet with the members in your area.

Both humans and dogs will benefit from the extra exercise and quality dog time and owners can rest easy knowing their pups are being taken care of.

2) Who started BorrowMyDoggy?

Our CEO Rikke founded BorrowMyDoggy in 2012 after taking care of her neighbour’s dog Aston. After spending time with Aston while she realised that there are lots of dog owners that could do with a helping paw, and lots of people who would love to help out and enjoy a bit of happy dog time! Thus, BorrowMyDoggy was born and we now have over 1million lovely members across the UK and Ireland connecting with other local dog lovers.

3) Is BorrowMyDoggy good/does it work?

We could tell you all about how great BorrowMyDoggy is but we think it’s best if you hear real-life stories straight from our lovely members! Take a look at our testimonials and Take the Lead series.

4) Where is BorrowMyDoggy located?

The great news is that BorrowMyDoggy operates across the whole of the UK and Ireland. Matches depend on location and availability so we recommend signing up for a free, basic account to explore the options in your area to start.

5) How much does it cost?

Once you are ready to start messaging your local matches, you will need to go Premium. This is an annual fee of £12.99 for borrowers and £44.99 for owners and includes unlimited messaging, insurance (full terms), safety checks and a 24/7 Vet Line. This helps to keep our community safe and secure.

Borrowers aren’t charging for their services or advertising dog walking businesses so there is nothing to pay after the initial fee.

Anyone being paid or asking for payment to look after a dog will not be eligible for a refund or be covered by our third-party liability insurance. If you’re worried that someone is trying to charge you, please get in touch with our friendly help team who will investigate further.

6) Is BorrowMyDoggy safe?

Safety and security are very important to us and as dog owners ourselves we completely understand that you want to be sure your dog is in safe hands.

So, there are a few things we offer to ensure the safety of you and your pups.

Safety checks - We have a process of safety checks in place in which both borrowers and owners have to complete before they can message another member. This ensures that members are who they say they are.

House safety - Here’s a handy guide that you can refer to when visiting a borrowers house. It will help ensure their home is safe for dogs. To read more about theft prevention, read our guide here.

Off the Lead form and Doggy Info Sheet - We encourage all our owners to fill out their 'Doggy Info Sheet’. This will ensure a borrower has all the information they need to provide the dog with the best care possible. Borrowers should keep dogs on the lead, however, owners have the opportunity to grant borrowers permission for off-lead time by completing the 'Off the Lead form'. If an owner doesn’t give permission, borrowers should not be letting the dogs off the lead.

Vet Line - Borrowers and owners have access to our 24/7 Vet Line so they can ask for professional advice in case of an emergency, and also for general advice too.

Ultimately, BorrowMyDoggy is all about getting to know other dog lovers really well before any borrowing takes place. Just as you would with a friend, family member, kennel or dog walker, it's important people get to know each other well locally before a dog is taken care of by another person.

We hope this helps, but you can read through more of our FAQs if we haven’t answered one of your questions, or please do not hesitate to contact us - our friendly help team are always happy to help!
