How to use BorrowMyDoggy for holiday care

BorrowMyDoggy can be used for a range of needs. Whether you need company for your dog, the occasional walk or overnight dog sitting, borrowers in your local area may be able to offer their time. What you may not know is that there are borrowers who can offer care while you are on holiday too.

We speak to our members every day and over time we have become familiar with your commonly asked questions. Below are the questions our members ask most often about holiday care.

Can I use BorrowMyDoggy for holiday care or dog boarding?

Yes! Borrowers in your local area may be able to offer overnight care or even longer.

Why would I choose BorrowMyDoggy over kennels?

Our annual membership for owners is just £44.99 and after that there are no other fees. Borrowers aren’t charging for their services which makes us cheaper than kennels.

We also think the one to one care and relationship that is built between a borrower and the dog is unique. Our borrowers love dogs and aren’t trying to make a profit. We believe it’s the next best thing to leaving your pup with family or friends.

Whilst you’re away, you can opt to share your phone number with your borrower so you can have direct contact and updates about your dog while they’re having a ‘pawsome’ time away too.

All of our Premium borrowers are covered with accident and third party liability insurance, have access to a 24/7 vet line and have completed safety checks before they can start messaging. We also have a ‘Doggy Info Sheet’ where you’ll put down your emergency contact details, vet details and all the other important information that will enable the borrower to take the best care of your dog and be prepared for the unlikely event of an emergency.

I don’t want to leave my dog with a stranger?

That’s completely understandable and we wouldn’t want you to do that either! By the time you leave your dog with a borrower, we want you to have a great relationship that is trusting and comfortable. That way you can enjoy your holiday in peace, knowing that your dog is having a great time with someone you know and trust.

We encourage all our members to have an initial meeting with a borrower so you can introduce your dog to them, and see how you all get on. You can do this as many times as you like until everyone feels comfortable. Once you are happy, you could test your dog staying at the borrower’s house overnight and see how they get on. If your dog is nervous or anxious, this can be a great way to slowly ease them into a new environment.

What if I don’t want my dog to leave my house? They are more comfortable where they are familiar.

That’s completely fine! Just discuss with the borrower the arrangements to make sure you are both happy. If you’d prefer a borrower to stay in your house, we recommend building up your trust and relationship with each other to ensure that you’re both comfortable with this arrangement. Heading out for dinner one evening? That’s a great opportunity to invite your borrower over to watch your pooch before providing holiday care.

My holiday is soon, I may not have time to do those things. What should I do?

It’s up to you and whether your dog is comfortable with a shorter process. We can’t guarantee you will find a borrower for your dates if they’re soon and would recommend finding kennels in case you are unable to find a borrower in time. We would love to help you find a match, so get in touch with our friendly help team and they will assist you in your search.

Don’t just take our word for it though! Here are some testimonials and reviews from our community about using BorrowMyDoggy as an alternative to kennels

If you have further questions about holiday care, please get in touch with us and we would be happy to help. Happy holidays!
